Taking inspiration from the greats
Harry Skeggs & Christine Riding
We recently met up with the multi-award-winning Z Creator, fine art and wildlife photographer Harry Skeggs and the National Gallery’s Head of the Curatorial Department and Curator of British Paintings, Christine Riding.
With the launch of the NIKKOR Z-series 105mm f/2.8 VR S macro lens, renowned macro photographer and Nikon ambassador alumnus Ross Hoddinott reveals his first-test verdict and the benefits of going mirrorless.
Fine art wildlife photographer, author and activist
Alfie Bowen only picked up a camera for the first time seven years ago, aged 16, as an escape from a decade of relentless bullying for having autistic spectrum disorder. Now 23, he has turned his lifelong affinity for the natural world into a burgeoning photographic career, with his work lauded by celebrities including Sir David Attenborough and his debut solo exhibition selling out in four hours.
Urban, architecture and landscape photographer
Ben Moore has an eye for architecture, urban street scenes and compelling aerials that instinctively draw in the viewer and have made him a highly sought-after commercial photographer, with big brand names including Samsung, Microsoft, Sony Music, Adidas, the FA, Bombay Sapphire and Smart under his belt – and now Nikon, as he’s recently become a Nikon Z Creator.
Marilyn Stafford’s remarkable life spans almost one hundred years, from Ohio in the Great Depression by way of post-war New York and Paris to London in the swinging 60s and harsher 1970s, followed by “another life” in retirement on the English south coast. She began her photographic career with an almost accidental portrait of Albert Einstein, before moving to Paris on a whim, where Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa became close friends.
Our latest Z Creator Dr J D Williamson – Jonathan to his family and friends – has been taking photographs since his primary school days, initially focusing on the natural world he loves so much. Now, as an NHS anaesthetist, he’s using his photography skills between hectic shifts in a North London hospital to capture the stark, harshly lit realities of Covid-19 for both patients and medics.
