Top Tips for photographing in Sunny Weather

Try our top tips for success when taking your camera out in hot weather....

Spring is here and the weather is finally picking up! But with temperatures soaring and the sun shining, how can you make sure your photos are still top quality? Follow these top tips from the Nikon School team to ensure your spring photography is a sizzling success...

1) When shooting on bright days, especially if you are facing towards the Sun, use your lens hood to reduce the possibility of lens flare on your images. However, in certain instances the deliberate use of Lens flare in your images can be used creatively to add interest to your images

2) A good polarising filter will help you add depth and contrast to you image, resulting in a more dynamic photograph. A polarising filter could also create a deeper shade of blue in the sky depending on where you are standing, relative to the Sun.

3) If you use Matrix Metering and shoot into the light, you can create striking silhouettes of your subjects. To capture an image that is not a silhouettes, use spot metering on your subject.

4) Nikon cameras which support Active D-Lighting will give you an advantage in getting an even exposure in very bright light. Setting Active D-Lighting to High or Extra High will bring back details in highlights and uncover details in the shadows that could potentially be lost without using this feature.

5) If you must leave your camera equipment exposed to high heat and/or humidity conditions for long periods of time, consider covering it when it's not in use. Cameras can overheat!
