LATEST NEWS - During the challenging times we are all facing in the UK, our first thoughts are for the health and wellbeing of our photographic community and staff. With this in mind, Nikon School at Margaret Street will be closed until further notice. In the meantime, Nikon School will be hosting a range of online workshops, talks and seminars. Nikon School is delighted to be co-hosting a Q&A talk with award winning photographer Joe McNally. As an experienced portrait photographer known for his technically excellent photography, Joe will be talking about his long career in the photography industry as well as invaluable tips and tricks he has picked up along the way.
Shooting in the studio—lighting, staging, and production—is all about control in pursuit of pre-visualized results. An eternal conundrum for photographers is how to bring that kind of control out on location. The studio environment is about order and (somewhat) predictable process. The world out on location is a mess. How do you bridge these two worlds?
In this two hour session, Joe McNally, who is as comfortable on location as he is in the studio, will show some of his recent work, from simple, quickly done one-light photos to elaborate productions, and discuss the kind of control and rigor he establishes in pursuit of wrestling with all manner of location problems. All questions are welcome in this lively online workshop where one of the premier photographers and educators working today shows work and candidly discusses the strategies, difficulties and approaches used in creating that work.
