LATEST NEWS - WELCOME TO NIKON SCHOOL ONLINE – THE OFFICIAL HUB FOR NIKON PHOTOGRPAHY
Nikon School is delighted to be co-hosting a Q&A talk with award winning photographer Joe McNally. As an experienced portrait photographer known for his technically excellent photography, Joe will be talking about his long career in the photography industry as well as invaluable tips and tricks he has picked up along the way.
I’ve always felt one of the principal jobs of a photographer is to find beauty. Beauty in a face, or a place, or the juxtaposition of elements, orchestrated by the photographer, that shows beauty, however implausible or incongruous. Beauty exists in so many forms, in so many faces, I’ve photographed. There is beauty, grace and dignity in the face of an ironworker, just as there is in a high fashion model, and just as there is in a fluidly beautiful, sculpted athlete. How often does a photographer encounter someone who is reluctant to pose, only to see the pictures afterwards and be astonished by the fact of them seeing themselves differently than they had ever imagined? This is our job, and we employ an array of skills and practices, from encouragement and psychology to lighting skills, staging and imagination. All driving towards one end: Seeing the beauty of our subjects.
In this two hour session, Joe McNally will take you through successes and failures, encounters and assignments, and talk candidly about this relentless search every photographer engages in. Q&A throughout.
