Nikon School Adventures: Devon Astrophotography & Landscapes

Course Contents

Join Nikon School for an exciting and immersive five-day photography workshop on the stunning North Devon coastline. Designed for photographers of all levels, this workshop combines hands-on landscape and astrophotography tuition with the opportunity to explore one of the UK’s most picturesque and diverse coastal regions.

Based at a beautiful boutique hotel, just a short walk from the cliffs and beaches of North Devon, you’ll spend your days capturing dramatic seascapes, peaceful woodlands, waterfalls, and – when the skies are clear – the awe-inspiring Milky Way rising over the Atlantic.

Sunday 6th June – Arrival & Welcome

• 5:00 PM – Meet & Greet at the hotel, camera setup Q&A
• 6:00–8:00 PM – Dinner
• Evening Session – Coastal sunset shoot
• Night Session – Astro photography (weather permitting)

Day 1: Monday 7th June

• Sunrise Shoot (optional)
• Morning & Afternoon – Landscape photography: coastal, woodland, or waterfall locations
• Evening – Sunset shoot followed by light painting or fire spinning on the beach
• Night Session – Astro photography

Day 2: Tuesday 8th June

• Sunrise Shoot (optional)
• Morning – Image editing, critique session or landscape photography
• Afternoon – Landscape shoot at selected location
• Evening – Sunset shoot + creative night techniques
• Night Session – Astro photography

Day 3: Wednesday 9th June

• Sunrise Shoot (optional)
• Morning – Image editing, critique session or landscape photography
• Afternoon – Landscape photography: coastal, woodland, or waterfall shoot
• Evening – Sunset shoot + light painting/fire spinning
• Night Session – Astro photography

Day 4: Thursday 10th June – Departure

• Sunrise Shoot (optional)
• Morning – Image editing and final critique
• Breakfast & Farewells

What You’ll Learn

Throughout the workshop, you’ll receive expert tuition designed to elevate your photography skills, with plenty of hands-on guidance in the field. Key topics include:

• Sunrise & Sunset Photography
  Master the techniques for capturing golden hour light, from planning your shoot to achieving perfect exposure.
• Long Exposure Techniques
  Learn how to create dramatic seascapes, smooth water effects, and dynamic skies using long exposures.
• Creative Filter Use
  Explore how to use ND, graduated, and polarising filters to enhance contrast, control light, and add mood to your images.
• Astrophotography & Night Sky Shooting
  Discover how to capture stunning images of the Milky Way, star trails, and night landscapes – including optimal settings and focusing in the dark.
• Composition & Framing
  Refine your eye for strong compositions with guidance on balance, leading lines, depth, and subject placement.
• Mirrorless Camera Mastery
  Get hands-on with Nikon’s latest mirrorless cameras and lenses, with expert advice on settings, features, and optimising performance in the field.

Accommodation

We have exclusive use of a lovely boutique hotel, offering the perfect environment to relax, meet fellow photographers, and share images over dinner and drinks. Note: Hotel rooms are allocated on a first come, first served basis
