A 5-night residential workshop in the Highlands of Scotland, photographing red squirrels, crested tits, and other native wildlife, under the expert guidance and tutelage of Nikon School training partner Chris Gomersall, assisted by local guide James Shooter. Saturday 13th to Thursday 18th of February 2021.
This late winter tour offers superb opportunities for photographing some of Scotland’s special wildlife subjects such as red squirrels and crested tits, using well-established feeding stations and purpose-built photography hides. From our base in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, we may also make excursions in search of red deer and mountain hare – or simply to enjoy photographing the amazing Highland landscape. Weather conditions will obviously influence what we are able to do, to some extent. There will be digital slide shows in the evenings after dinner, featuring presentations by Chris Gomersall, and participants are encouraged to bring some of their own work to share with the group.Non-Nikon users are welcome.
We will be staying in a spectacular lodge at Ballintean, Glenfeshie, in the Cairngorms National Park. Our group will enjoy exclusive occupancy of this comfortable, ideally-situated lodge, with its shared lounge and meeting area, remarkable views of the Cairngorms landscape, and our own resident chef. Your package includes 5 nights full board with a cooked breakfast, packed lunch, and a 3-course evening meal with coffee. There is no single supplement and all rooms are en-suite. We are satisfied that the accommodation at Ballintean mountain lodge complies with covid hygiene and social distancing recommendations.
Arrival and departure
Arrivals expected on the late afternoon/evening of Saturday 13th of February, ready for an evening meal about 7pm. There is ample parking at Ballintean. The tour will finish officially after breakfast on the morning of Thursday 18th February.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will not be renting a minibus, or collecting anybody from the airport or railway station as in the past. All delegates attending this course must have their own vehicle.
Moderate fitness level required. Involves walking over rough ground - normally no great distance, but if all of the group are deemed capable it might be possible to spend a day in the mountains in a quest for ptarmigan. Please bring walking boots and suitable protective gear for winter mountain conditions.

Average customer rating for this course:
"This course far out weighed my expectations, with the structure there was no pressure to perform, we were encourage to work within our own ability, but also to try something new, the conditions were perfect. Overall I gained much valuable experience and would highly recommend to anyone no matter what level they have in photography."
"The location and setting for the course was spectacular, with snow blizzards, beautiful white mountains and excellent accommodation - a great place and great food. We spent the four days in various hides set up specifically to photograph woodland birds, red squirrels and crested tits. A trip up the Findhorn Valley where we tracked down and crept up on mountain hares was a real highlight with some wonderful photographs of these magnificent animals, obtained. "
