Discover the secrets of capturing creative low-light cityscapes as we show you how to photograph the iconic bridges, buildings and skyline along the river Thames. This practical and hands-on workshop is ideal for anyone who wants to learn low to shoot low light cityscape images, long exposures and a range of other camera techniques within a small group of like minded individuals
This practical workshop will show you how to photograph buildings and architecture along the river Thames and around the Southbank and well as showing you how to shoot 'traffic trail' images and create 'ghosts'. The locations we will shoot are entirely weather dependent, but we plan to finish on around the embankment and then make our way from the house of parliament to the riverside around St. Paul's Cathedral. There are so many great locations and iconic buildings to photograph along this route, you will be spoilt for choice. We will start by capturing sunset (weather dependent) and twilight images before finally low light night shots. In each situation you'll get practical hints and tips on spotting great photo opportunities, as well as how to tackle focusing, exposure and composition
You will learn core techniques and correct camera set-up, including:
• What ISO to use
• Getting creative with white-balance
• Which exposure mode to set
• The impact of using different shutter speeds
• Dealing with tricky lighting situations
• Getting the most from Manual mode
• When to use noise reduction
This is a great opportunity to improve your photography skills and ask questions while out shooting images on location.
Please note itineraries may change due to weather conditions and if it does rain, we will find a local coffee shop to continue the workshop by hosting a camera Q&A or editing session until the weather clears
Food and drink is not part of the workshop, but we will endeavor to find time for a refreshment and comfort stop in one of the many places along the Southbank. Feel free to bring food / snacks or your own drinks with you if you want
If you would like to borrow any kit for this course please get in contact with us at [email protected] with your request and we will do our best to bring it along.
Notes:
Please meet on the River Thames side of Embankment Station
This course will involve a lot of walking, please wear appropriate comfortable footwear and due to the nature of the british weather please ensure you have a waterproof jacket / umbrella in case it rains
This was yet another great Nikon School course. We had a nice group and a great set of photographic locations suggested by Ricci. We even were able to use the ongoing showers to our advantage a couple of times. Ricci supplied regular suggestions, Q&A sessions, promoting good group chats; and helped make it an enjoyable evening. How he remembered a photo of mine from the same course in 2019 is beyond me. Highly recommended.
